Facility Planning

Facilities Study Overview

The Weyauwega–Fremont School District has begun a comprehensive facilities study to better understand the current condition, capacity, and long-term needs of school buildings across the district.

This study is an important first step in planning for the future. It will help the district evaluate how well its facilities support student learning, safety, accessibility, and operational efficiency — both today and in the years ahead.

Why a Facilities Study Is Needed

Many of the district’s buildings have served the community well for decades. As facilities age, it becomes increasingly important to assess building systems, learning spaces, and infrastructure to understand where improvements may be needed.

The facilities study will examine items such as:

  • Building condition and maintenance needs

  • Safety and security features

  • Accessibility and ADA compliance

  • Classroom size, layout, and functionality

  • Site circulation, traffic flow, and parking

  • Capacity and enrollment trends

This process allows the district to take a proactive, long-range approach rather than responding only to urgent or unexpected repairs.

What the Study Will Include

Working with professional planning partners, the district will conduct on-site evaluations, review existing data, and gather input from staff and stakeholders. The result will be a clear, objective picture of current conditions and potential options for addressing identified needs.

At the conclusion of the study, the Board of Education will receive a summary of findings and possible paths forward. No decisions have been made at this time — the study is focused on information-gathering and understanding options.

Keeping the Community Informed

Community engagement and transparency are key components of this process. Updates will be shared throughout the study to ensure families, staff, and community members understand the purpose, progress, and outcomes of the work.

The facilities study will help ensure that Weyauwega–Fremont School District is well positioned to support students, staff, and the community now and into the future.

Facilities Planning: Community Survey

Listening First: Help Shape the District’s Next Steps

Over the past several months, the District has been working to better understand the condition and needs of our school buildings. This included walkthroughs of each facility by consultants, staff input through surveys, and a comprehensive facilities study.

With that work complete, we are now taking the next step—listening to our community.

We are asking residents, families, and staff to share feedback on identified facility needs, including what should be prioritized and how those needs should be addressed. No decisions have been made. Community input will play an important role in shaping what comes next.

About the Survey

The community survey is administered by a third-party; all responses will remain anonymous and the survey is designed as a listening tool. It gives community members the opportunity to:

  • Review the facility needs identified through recent studies

  • Provide input on priorities

  • Share perspectives on potential approaches before any decisions are made

This process is about gathering feedback first—before any direction is determined.

How to Participate

  • Surveys will be mailed to all households in the district, arriving in mid-May

  • Each survey includes a unique access code to ensure responses remain anonymous

  • Community members can:

    • Complete the survey online

    • Or return the paper copy by mail

The survey will remain open until June 8.

What Happens Next

After the survey closes:

  • Results will be reviewed and summarized

  • Findings will be shared publicly at the June 29 Board Meeting

  • The District will use that input to help determine next steps in the facilities planning process

This work is focused on planning responsibly and ensuring future decisions reflect the priorities of the community.

Why This Matters

This process helps the District address deferred maintenance needs today while planning responsibly for future investments. It ensures that:

  • Building needs are identified and prioritized before they become larger issues

  • Community feedback helps guide decisions about where to invest

  • Future investments are planned thoughtfully and reflect shared values

We appreciate everyone who takes the time to participate.
